Just a few things:
"For those who think that rock 'n' roll is just about sex and drugs...it's also firmly about chocolate chip cookies." - The Hold Steady, at their concert last night.
Things I'm not going to overdo over Winter break: TiVo, sleeping, and snacking.
Things I'm going to do as much as possible over Winter break: Reading, exercising, and working.
I think that gambling gets a bad rep purely because of people who aren't in control of themselves. It's all these compulsive-gamblers who bet a week's income on a football game or a poker hand that add a stigma to gambling. I can go months without gambling. If you know what you're doing, and aren't gambling money you can't lose, it's just fun.
NetFlix is great. I like documentaries way more than I thought I did. I'm already through the first disc of season one of Scrubs and I still have to watch Hustle & Flow.
My TV crit professor whizzed by me in the hallway when I was two minutes late to class this afternoon, and then held the door open for me and shouted back, "Come on!" like it was going to be the most exciting fifty minutes of my life. She didn't think there was going to be enough time to review everything for the final. But, then she handed out evaluations and left for twenty minutes. Professors are always extra friendly when they hand out evaluations. My British Literature professor came in, handed out a study guide sheet, showed two movie clips, and then let us leave a half-hour early the day we evaluated her. My spanish teacher brought hot chocolate, chocolate chip cookies, and bagels. I just found out that evaluations affect things like their raises, so I always give really nice or really negative evaluations.
People don't like to plan out their future, me included. I can't even figure out where I'm going to live next year, I've just got it narrowed down to Chicago. Even that could change pretty quickly. I just know that I don't want to move back home. People always end up staying there for way longer than they expect to. Especially at my house, where there's free laundry service, home-cooked meals, TiVo, and our fridge is always stocked. I want to cook for myself, earn enough money for my own Tivo, and stock my own fridge. I just see it as being far more fulfilling.
