Conventional wisdom

|
I opened up a savings account so I can go to Europe next summer. I felt compelled to try and figure out a way of going this summer but “reason” got in the way. And sometimes you just have to forego that conventional wisdom and just do it anyway. But I do that all the time. I moved to Chicago before I found a job. I sunk money into a really expensive laptop before I could really afford it. Other things too. And while those things worked out for the best, I seem to be falling into a pattern of doing things backwards.

So now I have something to look forward to. And I have all year to plan it out and save for it. And I’m even excited for this summer in Chicago. I still remember savings five dollars a week in a coffee can from taking out the neighbor’s dog everyday and going into Sears and buying a $200 television in crumpled up cash so I could have one in my room. I valued the sense of accomplishment even more than the TV and I was like, ten years old. I need to learn from that kid.
