White Sox vs. Cubs debates always lead to an inane conversation. A narrow-minded debate about who’s better. But no conversation can persuade a person who’s already sided with a squad to jump ship. While talking to a lifelong Cubs fan, no matter what you say, even if you come up with something as brilliant as, “People don’t really watch the games”, or “Wrigley field is just an excuse to get tanked”, or even “C’mon, they’re losers” they will walk away still a Cubs fan.
And while talking with a die-hard White Sox fan, nothing will lure them away from their team. Not even, “Nobody watches the games”, or “You’ll probably get mugged on the Southside” or the commonly used, “Chicago has two baseball teams?” will sour a fan.
And fair-weather fans are unacceptable. Whoever you are rooting for, the other team is the enemy and you want them to choke. That’s it. Bragging rights are awarded on a season-to-season basis. Because historically, both teams are pretty bad. Right now, the Sox are only three years removed from a world championship. The Cubs are the best team in the league. Both are in first place. So, you better root for your team. But there's no use in arguing.
